sorry for the lack of updates lately. after winter term i was left with a strong desire to sleep for a hundred days. that didn’t exactly happen but i have been to the pool almost every day since the term ended so all is not lost. i start student teaching next tuesday and i get the immense pleasure of spending my spring break planning lessons rather than relaxing. i also have the monumental task of filling out district job applications, meeting with human resources directors to make sure they like me and send my application to schools and getting ready for the job fair in portland next week.

i am back at mystery school for spring, teaching my sixth graders and two pre-algebra classes. my coop teacher alluded to her efforts to write a job description that “fits just one person”. they may have filled the math teacher position but there appears to be an effort to get me on staff at the school by “creating” a position somewhere between math and special ed. and then when the rest of the department retires i would move into a full time math position. none of this is guaranteed or even on the books, but it has been alluded to. whatever happens, it’s nice to be wanted.

dylan just picked up a new job and starts two weeks from today; system administrator for the computing center at nameless university. excellent new opportunities for him.

my finger is almost completely healed. the nail still has a ways to grow out, but it looks like a finger now which is a major improvement.

i decided to run the half marathon instead of the full. the realization that the recovery period would coincide with about three-quarters of my student teaching was enough to convince me that the half was challenge enough.

so that’s the update.
