not for us. today represents the official end of peaceful summer eugene. it’s move-in day at the nameless university dorms. just trying to get myself and my bike down 15th ave to the rec center was nearly death-defying. the entire street was double parked with grocery-getters stuffed to the brim with bags from wal-mart. boo. and then the rec center was packed with little 18 year olds on their own for the first time…but wait, they are not on their own yet, that is still to come. these people aren’t here to work out, they are giving their parents the grand tour of their new “territory”. and what’s really the worst is the parents. trying to impart one last bit of advice by modeling ways to get information without the help of an adult. yes i know where the bookstore is. no i don’t know if it’s crowded. leave me alone before i start wishing you would get hit by a truck.
they’re back.
My mom went on a tour of the library during that day, and recounted LOTS of info about it. I later realized, I should have been listening.
