yes that’s right, they’re back. we should however, think of this as part duex because i have made a conscious effort not to be in any more situations that would spawn such tales as “tales of the commode: part une” did. so here we go.
everyday our classroom schedule goes as such: choice time, circle time, snack time, play time, clean-up time and book time. now, different parts of our schedule happen in different parts of our two room classroom, thus requiring transition time through our hallway where our student bathroom is. so we have our kids lined up to transition from choice time to circle time when one of the boys says that he has to go to the bathroom. well as those of you who work with the very young already know; when one kid needs a tissue they all need a tissue. this theory applies to everything from tissues to bandaids and as demonstrated by my class today it applies to bathroom trips as well. so in the middle of class we had an impromptu potty party in which each of our eight students took his or her respective turn in the potty. now this reminded me of my own preschool experience for a very specific reason which i will get to shortly. only one of our students cared about having any kind of privacy. the rest of the kids just peed while their friends looked on. so the reason that this reminded me of my own preschool is because i had forgotten that the bathroom at my preschool was just a room with four toilets in it, no walls no nothing. at what point is communal relieving of ourselves no longer okay?
